Kulzer Brazil celebrates its 40th birthday in February – also a special birthday for a company. An occasion to talk to Country Manager Regiane Marton about the history of the company, the Brazilian dental market and what distinguishes the successful and trusting partnership between Kulzer and its customers in Brazil and what a good team is all about.
For many people the own 40th birthday is an important milestone. How is with a company? Do you see parallels?
This is also a very important milestone in the life of a company! Over generations, Kulzer has built professionals and technologies, both in products and in the market. As a dental expert, Kulzer has established itself in the Brazilian market and we are very grateful for the trust that dental professionals place in us. In our work, we are always guided by ethical standards and strive to enrich the market with innovations. We are grateful and it makes us proud to have become such a popular brand among dentists and laboratory technicians in recent years. At the same time, Kulzer is an attractive employer for us! Like the people, the company is also gaining in maturity, social presence and prestige. I am proud of what Kulzer has become in its 40th year of existence.
You can look back on a very successful year in which you worked hard and gave yourself a birthday present with the team’s performance. What were the biggest successes and what contributed to them?
It is rewarding to grow and to look back on the last years and enjoy the result of a long and hard work of building, rebuilding, developing and learning. With 300,000 dentists and 20,000 dental technicians, the Brazilian dental market is one of the largest in the world, and we are proud to enrich this market with our products and, above all, to build good partnerships with our customers that are a win-win for everyone. Decisive for this are experience and knowledge, trust in us and good relationships with our business partners. The success of product launches such as Delara reflect this and confirm that we offer the market what it needs. At the same time, we are working every day to improve further. For example, we have worked intensively on logistics to meet the demands of our customers.
Behind this result is a strong team – what characterizes good teamwork for you and what do you value?
The greatest strength of teamwork is integration and finding solutions together. It is always very important that guidelines and strategies are shared and discussed in a way that everyone understands and feels part of.
Just as important as having talent on our team is giving them autonomy to act, along with support, direction and goal setting. I believe in participative leadership that brings together interdisciplinary knowledge, considers inputs and feedbacks, evaluates alternatives, has an efficient network, partnerships, positivism, growth mindset and passion for what it does. We are always very close, communicate regularly and at the same rhythm, respect each other as professionals and as people, and grow together!
How do you see yourself as a leader in this team and what is important to you in terms of leadership responsibility?
I like to listen to others and basically believe that all ideas are a good starting point. Diversity, no matter in which field, inspires me! Of all the great leadership challenges, I am most fascinated by helping people to develop. I believe this is one of the greatest accomplishments a leader can leave behind. Sharing knowledge, learning from one another, receiving and giving feedback – these are motivational drivers for self-development, changing the status quo, ego control, and genuine listening! To me, these are great leadership treasures. I am discerning about ethics, commitment, responsibility and mutual respect, which are the foundation for building a strong team committed to a common goal!
You are not only Country Manager at Kulzer Brazil, but also a qualified dentist – what drives you, what is your heart's desire to achieve through your involvement in the dental world? What experiences shaped you and also influence the way you are and work today?
I have always enjoyed taking care of people and that was one of the reasons why I decided to study dentistry. When I started at Kulzer Brazil 16 years ago to implement the quality system and the regulatory affairs department, I took several courses in these areas and also earned a degree in pharmacy. But my heart has always been in dentistry. The power of a healthy and genuine smile is like a transformer!
In addition to working at Kulzer, I am involved with Make-A-Wish Foundation, where I work with seriously ill children. This has always been a great passion and once again confirms to me the power of a smile as well as the realization of a dream. I bring my knowledge from my professional career and I don't give up on being a part of making children's dreams come true as well. And in my role as a member of the Board of ABIMO (Brazilian Association of Medical Devices) I can work on the team of the campaign "Sorrir Muda Tudo" in favor of the development of oral health in Brazil.
Privately, my four year old son allows me to have a magical and very real experience of motherhood, which teaches me daily that it is also very important to rely also on intuition.
