International Women's Day has been celebrated on 8 March for 110 years. Reason enough to introduce four strong women from Kulzer – for an entire month. In a short series, they tell us what makes their jobs special, what has shaped them on their career paths and what or who inspires them.
Inspired by her mother, Paula Baire pursues a clear goal. Here she talks about the difference between a good team and a great team, and what has led her to her current position as Regional Sales Manager over the past 8 years.
Who is your role model?
The person that brought me into this life is my role model. My mother, Cindy Baire, started as an accountant for a real estate appraisal business 35 years ago and now is an owner of that company. She made sacrifices being a career motivated woman which set the foundation for me to observe how to shatter those glass ceilings working in a male dominated industry. Watching her develop an extraordinarily successful government division within her organization and becoming a partner who brought a different perspective, inherently effected my vision of what a woman can accomplish. I have had the privilege of being raised by two parents who provided a life for my brother and me to succeed by hard work, drive, and perseverance.
My motivation stems from an internal desire to live the life that I imagine. Life is about the experiences you have, not what you have. In order to create those experiences, I must work hard to make them become a reality. I work to live.
What do you think makes a good team successful?
The difference between a good team and a great team is trust. Just like any relationship this is the foundation. Developing a team that has open communication will create an environment allowing people to feel comfortable to speak up. On my team, we celebrate achievements and discuss honestly challenges that arise in order to make us stronger. Morale and culture plays a pivotal role in job satisfaction and that dynamic starts with me.
What makes your job special?
What makes my job special at Kulzer are the people. I have been fortunate to develop rapport and a connection with my territory managers, the various departments within Kulzer such as Marketing/Finance, and senior management. I would not be here without the support of the people at Kulzer who not only believed in me but also guided me to become the leader I am today. The team has a genuine passion for this industry and company. We have a saying within Kulzer North America that “WE BLEED KULZER GREEN”, which means that we have a strong devotion to Kulzer because as a company we are proud to provide first class materials that improve the lives of patients around the world. Dealing with COVID-19 this past year, unveiled our true colors as an organization by overcoming such adversity and maintaining to deliver the highest quality of products and services to our customers.
